Court Reporting Theory

Students and reporters are very passionate when it comes to their court reporting theory.  Each student will tell you theirs is the best.

There are about 10 steno theories floating out there, with about 6 being actively taught in programs.  The truth is that they all work to some degree.  Successful court reporters have been made using all of them. 

So where do they differ?  Some are spelling based, while other are sound based.  Some require detailed stroking of the keys, while others are more brief-designed. 

The key is to find the theory that matches up with your strongest method of learning.  All students do not learn in exactly the same way, so every theory does not work on the same level.

So make sure you look over all the active theories being taught and find the one that fits you best.
